Every month, social grants by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) are a great help to millions of South Africans and the agency’s decision to not only announce the dates of the payments but also to notify recipients of the changes for October 2025 was very nice. The recipients will certainly be able to plan their movements according to the dates, the increases in grants, and the risk of delays in the most convenient way for them.
October 2025 Grant Payment Dates
SASSA has confirmed the payment dates mentioned above for social grants for the month of October 2025.

Updates & Alerts Additional
Closure of Johannesburg Office. On September 15, 2025, the SASSA office in Johannesburg was closed because of internal investigations and accusations of fraud. The employees who were working at this office have been distributed to Westbury Clinic, South Hills Community Hall, and Cosmo City Multipurpose Centre so the customer service will not be interrupted. SASSA users in the mentioned areas should check where their nearest service point is.
Changes in Biometric Enrollment & Payment Method
Biometric enrollment of new and existing SASSA grant applications has been the introduction of a scheme prevention strategy that involves either a fingerprint or a facial scan. Up to now, more than 42,000 users have been enrolled in the system across 432 offices all over the country. To request for a change in your payment method (e.g.: from bank account to card or retail pick-up) you need to 1) show your ID and proof of account or bank statements; 2) visit the closest SASSA office to fill out a consent/change form; and 3) make your request before the 19th of the month for it to be processed in the next cycle.
What to Do if There are Delays or Mistakes
- Wait for an SMS or notification from SASSA to confirm your payment.
- Check again your bank details or account status (valid, active).
- If you haven’t got your payment by the date set for your grant, go to the nearest SASSA office or contact the call center of SASSA.
- Do not let yourself be scammed: do not give your PIN or personal information to any unverified agent who claims to be “fast-tracking your payment.”
